The world through screens – reflection on my digital skills
I have been exposed to the rapid digitalization of our world from a quite young age. However, my mom made sure we shouldn't have smartphones too young, and the use of social media was also restricted. Teenage me obviously felt infuriated by this, but later in life, I've come to appreciate the childhood I got to keep.
Nowadays I consider myself to be quite fluent in different kinds of digital tools. My interests in digital art and architecture media inspired me to learn visual skills to pursue my ideas. After starting architecture school they have stayed with me as my strongest asset when it comes to digital working. In addition, my brief but intense career as an event organizer got me familiar with digital communication tools.
Whereas I'm comfortable with creating and communicating with visual content, I find myself quite a novice when it comes to other digital skills, such as coding or setting up web pages. Making this blog, for example, was a jump to an uncertain area, but I'm nevertheless intrigued to give it a try. I realize that plenty of the digital world's possibilities still lie uncanny to me. Some of it I like to keep that way – with constant digital stimulants it's sometimes freeing to not be too compelled by what's behind our screens.

Hi Maija! I share your thoughts on using digital tools at a young age. On the other hand I believe my digital skills would not be as good now if I hadn't been exposed to digitalization as a child. Great post! I look forward to the next one :-)
ReplyDeleteHello Maija!
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing this amazing post and for being open about the issues surrounding the use of smart devices. It's important to be aware of these problems and to have guidance, especially at a young age. With so much of our lives now centered around technology, it's crucial that we approach its use with caution and mindfulness. I've learned that mindfulness is key to almost everything. Let's continue to have these important thoughts and work towards creating a healthier relationship with our devices.
Cant wait for your next blog post!

Hi my fellow Maija!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this beautiful post. It was a pleasure to read, and I can completely relate to your thoughts about the digitalization and the freedom that life outside the screens can give. I am also happy to hear that there are still parents who protect their children from the excessive screen time – the childhood is something that should be valued and cherished much more in these hectic times. I also share your thoughts about the digital art and architectural media – it is a whole world of interesting new skills to learn out there! :-)
I look forward for your next post!
